“Normal”: Peter Drake, Carson Fox, Elliott Green, David Humphrey, Jon Waldo

Normal: Peter Drake, Carson Fox, Elliott Green, David Humphrey, Jon Waldo Organized by: Peter Drake & Linda Warren January 12th – February 23rd, 2007 Most people want to be normal. They want to fit in, to be a part of the status quo, in effect to disappear. To be normal is to fly under the radar and escape life unscathed. A smaller group of people do whatever they can to avoid being normal. They define themselves in opposition to the status quo. To disappear is to die; to stand out is to live forever. A third very small group of …

Loretta Bourque: Sex, Dogs and Random Droll December 1st – January 6th, 2006-07 Linda Warren Gallery is proud to heat up the winter season with “Sex, Dogs and Random Droll,” a solo exhibition of paintings by Loretta Bourque. As the title suggests on display are three seemingly separate series of paintings: the self-portraits series, the tutu series, and the dog series. With humor and compassion, Bourque exposes life’s subtle contradictions and oddities and successfully manages …

Brenda Moore

Brenda Moore: The Horse in the Bedroom October 20th – November 25th, 2006 Linda Warren Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Brenda Moore’s first solo exhibition at the gallery “The Horse in the Bedroom.” Utilizing an array of media including painting, drawing, encaustic, embroidery, found objects and installation, Moore indulges in a subject matter that has, since the age of five, been her obsession: the horse. An intensive, all encompassing childhood fantasy of owning a horse and even becoming a horse, so defined the artist’s imagination that it became the mechanism by which she not only learned to …

The finely crafted, seemingly fragile rollercoaster-like structure (comprised of 160 feet of ash wood) is much more than a wonderful homage to one of Chicago’s proudest historical moments. Using a lustrous, translucent bowling ball, which encases fragments of Freiburg’s previously crushed sculpture from the “Ball Drop” event in March …

Larry Roberts // Robert Taplin

Larry Roberts / Robert Taplin Friday, July 7 – August 19, 2006 We are pleased to feature in the gallery this summer a two-person exhibition of paintings by Larry Roberts and sculpture by Robert Taplin. Seeing the work of these artists together in the gallery one is immediately struck by the materiality of their work and their investment in it. Although their work employs widely divergent means each piece evokes a plethora of possible readings and suggested narratives, be they achieved through figuration or abstraction, object or illusion, surface or structure. Robert’s abstract acrylic paintings are not easy to categorize. …
